The Belt of Truth

“Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.” ~ Lamentations 2:19

I started reading this book called The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian. It seems like everything Adam and I have been learning lately from church and podcasts and books is about spiritual warfare. We are being constantly reminded that we are at battle while we live here on this earth and it is crucial for us to put on our armor and equip ourselves to fight victoriously in this battle. We have been looking at Ephesians 6:10-17
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in its place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Adam and I have the blessing and the crucial role as Amelia’s parents to pray on her behalf for God’s protection as she grows up in this world. When I’m trying to grasp a deeper understanding of the reality of this world and the spiritual warfare that surrounds us I do best when I picture a real war with real good guys and bad guys. If Amelia and I were walking into battle I would do EVERYTHING absolutely EVERYTHING to protect her from being snatched up by one of the bad guys. I would give anything of myself and fight my hardest to prevent this from happening. There’s no way I would just sit back and without having prepared myself for battle or taught Amelia how to fight for herself just let her walk into the hands of the enemies. So why is any of this different when we look at spiritual warfare? The reality is there are forces of evil in this world trying to fight for my daughter’s life. The Enemy does not want her to walk in the ways of the Lord, he wants to keep her for himself and he will do what he can to lead her down the path of destruction. Adam and I as her parents REFUSE to allow this to happen. We will pray for her protection and for her to grow up in the wisdom of the Lord to recognize what is truth and what are lies and to know to seek God for His strength to help her walk in the path of righteousness.

I ask for those of you with the desire to be joining us in prayer for Amelia and for any children you may have or families you may know. The generations that are rising up below us are facing so much brokenness and instability and uncertainty it is frightening. They need the prayers of those who know the Lord to protect them and lead them towards the truth so they do not get lost and caught up in the lies this world sells to them. Here’s to our children and our children’s children… the greatest legacy we can leave behind!
