Reading List 2013

Updated 4/11/13: I have added numerous books to my original list thanks to my local library : ) I found a lot of homeschool books to check out for free. Adam has been out of town for almost 2 months which has left me a lot of reading time before baby #3 comes so I have taken advantage and soaked up book after book after book! God has continued to provide some inexpensive thrift store finds as well as a new merging of our credit card points to Amazon so I can now use our points to buy some cheap books on Amazon for free! Yipee! I also have gotten involved in the bible studies our church offers out here and thus have added a few books from there as well : ) I just love reading!!! The more I read the more I want to keep on reading and reading : )

I have been so excited to get this list out. I actually made it in November and have been anxious to get started but have had to wait due to holiday travel and moving. I feel so blessed to have each one of these books (except the fiction) in hand. God really provided over the past year with thrift store and used book store and cheap amazon sales. I had been developing this list as I read book recommendations from my favorite blogs or books that were recommended at the end of some of the books I read last year and I would literally walk into a thrift store and browse the shelf and one of them would be sitting there for a buck or two! I really spent pennies on this collection and while there were a few books I wanted to add or replace with one on the list here I feel confident that God gave me these books to add to my library over this past year to be the ones for me to read currently. I don’t need to spend a penny this next year on books. Praise God for His provisions! Here goes!

Fiction:

  • The Sword by Bryan Litfin
  • The Gift by Bryan Litfin
  • The Kingdom by Bryan Litfin – These 3 books are called the Chiveis Trilogy. Adam and I happened upon them by fluke as I quickly ran into the library before our last drive from AZ back to CO and back to AZ the next week. We wanted something to listen to during the boring NM stretches. This was on the new release shelf for audio cd’s and I read the back and was so interested. I didn’t even realize it was the third book of a trilogy and that it was a Christian author and publisher! We listened to a little less than half during the drive (kiddos didn’t sleep much!) so now I want to start from the beginning and read them. They are very interesting! Similar to a LOTR type sci-fi book with a wonderful Christian undertone.
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker – I added this one after finding out the Chiveis Trilogy is not to be found in the library here so I will wait until another opportunity to read them. I had this book in a box in the garage and decided to go for it!
  • The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova – I added this one from a recommendation from my sister-in-law when she found out I was reading Dracula as it is a sort of present day recount of the history of Dracula. I was planning to check it out from the library when they had it for sale for $2.00 in their friends of the library section! I didn’t have cash on me but remembered Adam putting a bag of “rainy day change” in our car and found two $1 coins in it : )
  • Chronicles of the Kings Series by Lynn Austin – This is a great series I just started reading as a recommendation from a good friend. I cannot find the previous series at any library in AZ or CO but there are some libraries in CO that I can get this series from through the interlibrary loan (best invention known to libraries!) so I’ve been reading these and am hooked!!!!
